CATARACT
Symptoms
Why do cataracts develop? Cataracts develop for many reasons. If you have any of the symptoms of cataracts, please call our office for an appointment. How are cataract diagnosed? Drs. Agnone and Morrison will perform a complete eye exam to determine the cause of your symptoms, looking for all possible causes of your decreased vision. Are there other treatments beside surgery for my cataracts? There are no medications, vitamins, drops, foods, eye exercises, laser procedures, or other treatments for cataracts beside surgery. When cataracts interfere with daily activities, it is time to consider cataract surgery. What is important to look for before having cataract surgery? The best results in cataract surgery are achieved when the latest technology is paired with the expertise and personalized care of the physicians and staff of Agnone, Morrison, and Associates, Eye Physicians and Surgeons. Drs. Agnone and Morrison have pioneered a number of new techniques and treatments for cataracts in central Ohio including:
Small incision cataract surgery provides greater safety during the surgery, more rapid healing and quicker return to normal activities. What options for intraocular implants during cataract surgery are available? There are three available options: The monofocal / traditional lens, which provides distance vision, but may require patients to use reading glasses or a bifocals for near vision and trifocals for intermediate range vision. The AcrySof® TORIC astigmatic lens, which corrects pre-existing astigmatism and lessens dependence on glasses for distance vision. The multifocal / bifocal / accommodating ReSTOR®, ReZoom™, and Crystalens® lens, which correct near, far, and in-between vision with much less, and often no dependence on glasses. Who determines which intraocular lens implant is best for me? Every person has individual vision needs. Before your cataract surgery the doctors will help you decide which intraocular lens is best for you. Is it possible to have the astigmatism-correcting or multifocal / bifocal accommodating lens implanted as a refractive procedure if I don’t need cataract surgery? Yes. These lenses can be an option for patients who are not candidates for LASIK or PRK treatments. What is the cost of cataract surgery? Cataract surgery with the traditional / monofocal accommodating intraocular implant is covered by most insurance carriers and Medicare. You will be responsible for normal deductibles and co-payments. You may upgrade your intraocular lens implant to the astigmatism correcting or the multifocal / bifocal implant for an additional fee. Information about financing any uncovered portion of cataract surgery is available at our office. Is financing available for the multifocal accommodating intraocular lens implant as a refractive procedure? Yes. You may finance all or part of the procedure. There are several options available, whether you are having cataract surgery or not, and the staff would be happy to assist you. |
