Dr. Louis J. Chorich III is a board-certified ophthalmologist and one of central Ohio’s most experienced specialists in diseases of the retina and vitreous. With over two decades of clinical, academic, and research experience, Dr. Chorich brings an exceptional depth of knowledge and a genuine passion for advancing the science of ophthalmology,  all in service of improving patient outcomes.

A longtime faculty member and researcher at The Ohio State University, Dr. Chorich has dedicated his career to training the next generation of eye care specialists and advancing retinal medicine through cutting-edge clinical research.

Education & Training

Medical Degree

Dr. Chorich earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio,  the same institution where he would go on to build a distinguished career in academic medicine and surgical training.

Internship

He completed a preliminary medicine internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital (now OhioHealth) in Columbus, Ohio, gaining a strong foundation in general medicine before focusing his expertise in ophthalmology.

Ophthalmology Residency

Dr. Chorich completed his ophthalmology residency training at The Ohio State University Department of Ophthalmology, where he developed the clinical expertise that would define his surgical career.

Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship

Following residency, Dr. Chorich completed a highly competitive two-year Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship at The Ohio State University,  one of the most advanced subspecialty training programs in the country,  cementing his standing as a leading expert in complex retinal surgery.

Academic Appointments & Research

From 1998 to 2006, Dr. Chorich served as a full-time faculty member of The Ohio State University Department of Ophthalmology, where he was instrumental in training medical students, ophthalmology residents, and vitreoretinal surgery fellows. He continues to serve as an Assistant Clinical Professor,  reflecting his enduring commitment to medical education.

A prolific contributor to the field, Dr. Chorich has:

• Authored chapters in ophthalmology textbooks
• Contributed to multiple peer-reviewed medical journals
• Lectured at local and national ophthalmology conferences
• Served as a clinical research investigator and sub-investigator on 23 trials over the past two decades, studying new treatments for macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and other retinal disorders

In addition to his clinical and academic work, Dr. Chorich is a skilled computer programmer and consultant with a particular interest in developing ophthalmology applications.
